Wall Drug
Starting seeing these billboards for Wall Drug, one after the other, various themes. Did I mention I hate billboards? Can you say blight on the landscape? Any-who, these caught Rita's interest and after some investigation turns out it is world famous. From Wikipedia: billboards can be found on a 650 mile stretch of I90 from Minnesota to Billings, Montana, Antarctica, Paris, Afghanistan. A sprawling tourist attraction of international renown that takes in more than $10 million a year and draws 2 million annual visitors. Free ice water, homemade donuts and 5 cent coffee. I guess a visit is in order.
Another long driving day
I must say the Americans know how to do a rest stop. Once it was explained to me how the numbering works on the freeways it made negotiating the cities less stressful, but I do wish we wouldn't hit them during rush hours. Today we went through Indiana, Illinois, Iowa. Sun going down and we found a place to stay in a truck stop/rest stop kind of area in Stuart, Iowa. Had dinner in the MacDonalds and the Kum & Stop. Yum.

Heading west
We have had a long driving day. Through Pennsylvania ($27 toll), West Virginia (for about 10'), through Ohio and just into Indiana, spending the night in a place called Richmond.
Wine wine and more wine
I don't know what to say about the drive to Glenmore, Pennsylvania other than yikes. So much traffic, so fast, so many lanes, so many turnoffs and so many motorcycle riders with no helmets going over 120 km. Managed to go over the Tappen Zee Bridge, past New York without missing a turnoff and accidentally going into the city. Whoa, we are no longer going to Atlantic City. Spending the night in Glenmore with Norm and Leona, relatives of Rita.
Last last chance for lobster
In Hartford at the hotel. Lobster mac and cheese. Can't believe we ate the whole thing and oh boy did we pay for it.

Hoofing it
We are doing a few long days to get to Atlantic City and we always seem to hit rush hour somewhere. Made it to Hartford in the dark and spent the night there, didn't see a thing. New York City getting close, not looking forward to driving near that.
Bangor, Maine to Hartford, Conneticut
All about the freeway down here, and getting from a to b. So far, 4 partial tolls on the Maine Turnpike and one for the Mass Turnpike. Drive a little bit, stop at the toll, drive a little more, stop again. Prices ranged, $1.75, $2.25, $3.00, $2,00, $1.10. We have had other tolls along the way, Toronto, New Brunswick, a bridge in Halifax. Of course, the Port Mann. Some electronic, some not.
On the map the freeway to Hartford runs along the coast but we are unable to see anything but bush. Saw a sign for Kennebunkport which rang a bell, so we veered off to take a look. Knew there had to be water over there somewhere. Took some time to find the beach and was worth the short break and nice to see what the area looks like.

Last chance lobster roll
Have tried lobster rolls in various places and this one is probably the best one. The McLobtser being the worst. Leaving the Atlantic coast so no more lobster rolls for us.
Bird's eye view
We got in late to Bangor, Maine and woke up in the morning to find out that the hotel wasn't so much near the airport but at the airport. Maybe should say in the airport. This is the view from our room.
